About us, but we’ll be brief

Experian offers identity and fraud services for clients in more than 44 countries. Every year, we check that 400 million people are who they say they are, and help organizations effectively fight fraud while providing a hassle-free customer experience. We use a unique combination of data, analytics and technology to create right-sized fraud solutions that allow our clients to make confident decisions for every transaction. Our ultimate goal is to make the industry’s fraud and identity solutions work better for everyone around the world.

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for the ongoing development of the Experian Design System (EDS) under the direction of the Design System Lead. You’ll provide expert guidance on technical strategy and direction for supporting UI standards and components in both framework agnostic and framework specific ways. Design System decisions have a global reach and must be well understood with documented rationale. You’ll use industry standards, best practices and experience to implement reusable UI elements for a variety of technical targets. You’ll have a strong focus on detail and skillfully balance optimization, performance, functional and aesthetic concerns. You’ll work closely with the Lead Interaction Designer to provide technical insight and implement designs according to spec. You’ll also manage and oversee contributions to the design system from other engineers (similar to an open source model). You’ll provide technical guidance and input for documentation and content creation for the system. This role is highly collaborative, and you’ll work with multiple teams on a variety of different products and domains to continually improve and adjust the design system over time. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Implement component designs provided by the Lead Designer using industry standards and framework agnostic technologies (web components)
  • Work with the Design System Lead and Lead Designer to ensure the design system maintains technical integrity as new components and features are introduced
  • Regularly audit and improve the EDS documentation (good/bad examples, etc.) as we move toward a more “self-service” model
  • Establish, maintain and evolve code patterns that scale and can be safely copied and reused by others
  • Provide training, support and education to engineering teams including integration with frameworks such as Angular and React
  • Track bug fixes, feature requests and community contributions and manage development work with an agile process
  • Manage the design system’s release pipeline and version control
  • Maintain the design system’s websites and online systems

What your background looks like

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in software development or similar field
  • 6+ years of experience working with JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Solid understanding of and experience with multiple JavaScript frameworks and technologies including native language features, HTML custom elements, Angular, React, Polymer, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of programming fundamentals and ability to communicate the tradeoffs, pros and cons of different patterns, strategies and implementations
  • Must be a leader and provide consistent guidance and vision for long development cycles (i.e. maintain/protect system stability/harmony over time)
  • Proficiency with CSS and skilled at recreating static designs efficiently in code
  • Comfortable with node.js based build environments and tools
  • Works effectively in teams of differing and opposing perspectives, doesn’t get emotional over decisions and can defend position with clarity and poise
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to organize and present information on screen and verbally with a team
  • Enjoys solving difficult and sophisticated design problems in an enterprise environment
  • Patient and caring enough to explain and simplify challenging technical concepts for audiences with little to no knowledge of coding

Perks

  • You can work remotely full-time, or once it’s safe you can work from an Experian office if you choose
  • Four weeks of vacation to start, five sick days and two volunteer days (plus eleven paid holidays)
  • This is a bonus eligible position with a 15% bonus target
  • Employee stock purchase program and 401K matching with immediate vesting
